Excellent Quiz - I was just wondering about the Hound of the Baskervilles bringing Holmes back from his literary death. He supposedly died with Prof. Moriarty on the Reichenbach Falls in the story "the Final Problem", when Conan Doyle had had enough of Holmes in the Strand Magazine. Due to public clamour he brought him back (3 years later?) in a Dallas style reincarnation in the story "Empty House".

Technically in order of publication Hound came between The Final Problem and The Adventure of The Empty House, though was obviously set before the events at the Reichenbach Falls... It was the third of four full length novelisations of Holmes (Study In Scarlett, Sign of Four, and Valley Of Fear being the others). So you are quite right that Hound Of The Baskervilles didnt in fact "bring him back," as Holmes hadnt yet encountered Moriarty at the Falls at the time of the events on Dartmoor...
