At least 122 people are dead after a Sibir Airlines passenger jet Airbus A-310 with 200 people on board veered off the runway while landing at Irkutsk Airport in Siberia in wet conditions. Italy wins the 2006 FIFA World Cup, defeating France 5-3 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw. This is Italys 4th World Cup win. Roger Federer wins his fourth consecutive Wimbledon tennis championship, beating Rafael Nadal in the final match of the tournament. Zinedine Zidane in his final match, headbutts Marco Materazzi and gets sent off in the final of the FIFA World Cup.
